I'm not pregnant right now, but my husband and I are in the process of trying-to-conceive, which has given us a few obstacles to overcome. Because we are trying-to-conceive, I have been taking pre-natal vitamins my doctor gave me, but my samples are about to run out! I don't like most of those vitamins because they are prescription only and many contain stool softeners, which I don't want to take on a daily basis, although I understand why they are included.
I do eat a balanced, primarily vegetarian diet (I include eggs, yogurt, and occassionally fish), but because of my medical situation any pregnancy I have will be considered risky and I want to do everything I can to ensure a healthy pregnancy and baby and I feel taking a supplement is part of this. Before I began trying-to-conceive I regularly took a multi-vitamin and evening primrose oil, but that supplement doesn't have the necessary levels of folic acid.
So, do any of you have a good pre-natal vitamin you can recommend? I am especially interested in any with organic ingredients and those that are fermented for easy digestion. Do you have any warnings about vitamins I should definitely avoid or general guide lines about how to shop for good vitamins?
Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer!
